We light our flaming chalice,
to illuminate the empty spaces
between what was, what is
and what will be.
We gather in hope
That life can begin anew;
That our differences can be bridged
That the beloved community can arise.
All over the world
Unitarians and Unitarian Universalists
light a flaming chalice.
It is the flame that brings us together
and binds us together.
It is a symbol of our common values,
our shared commitments
and our belief that in our diversity there is unity.
We light our chalice this day, in gratitude
for those who have gone before us,
those who gather with us
those who are absent in the circle
and those who will follow in our footsteps.
Chalice Lighting
{inspired by the music “Fix You”
by Barryman, Buckland, Champion and Martin}
For every time we do our best but don’t succeed,
Congregational Response: May a Light guide us home.
For every time we get what we want but not what we need,
May a light guide us home.
When we feel so tired but we can’t sleep,
May a light guide us home.
When stuck in reverse and the tears come streaming down our face,
May a Light guide us home.
When we lose something we can’t replace,
May a Light guide us home.
When you love someone but it goes to waste,
May a Light guide us home.
For every time we are disappointed and we choose hope,
May a Light guide us home.
